Initial Ideas

The reason i chose my specific site was because when walking around the site i came across a large opening, on one side we had the hill and its changing gradient and woodland and on the other side was some more woodland and then the reservoirs, and in the middle just nothing. it seemed like something was missing, like a missing link from one side to the other. So i seen opportunity in this site to produce an architecture that bridges this gap, also due to the site being an open area between woodland it meant it was exposed to all the elements; Wind, Rain, Sunlight. The possibility of harvesting these elements to contribute to making my design a sustainable one seemed too good to pass up.
My initial idea was make a thermal bath, a interpretation of the streams flowing down the mountains which could pass through trees and go underground etc. Allowing the user to take this journey aswell to experience these spaces of being outside in the open air and then inside, enclosed within a space would spark different responses and different feelings. Since this would just be an interpretation i could create specific space such as caves for the user to travel underground in these artifical mines allowing them to have an up close experience with spaces rather than look at pictures, within these artifical mines could display artifacts related to the mining in the area, allowing this journey to be an educational one, killing 2 birds with one stone.
There would also be pools to allow people to relax to represent the springs which can be found further up winterhill.

Currently research is on going into looking at how much energy would be required to heat the water to an appropriate temperature and if this could be produced through solar panels, and if so how many would be needed etc and also how long it would be before we started to see a return in costs.
